So I’m not quite sure how to update, explain, share,
um, let you know how
Flipping the Flip has flipped.
If you’ve followed along, you’ve likely noticed something has been
different.
Well wait, the blog itself hasn't flipped. So don’t panic, have no fear,
nothing about what you find here is going to change. You’ll still find
rockin’
DIY projects
on a budget, all the cool stuff you’ve come to know and love is going to
remain the same. And loads more on the docket. Loads.
What has changed is everything else. And by everything, I mean like
ninety seven percent everything.
And frankly I’m sitting here staring blankly, watching the cursor blink at me
because I dunno where even to begin.
Let’s just blanket say things have been not to my liking.
Mike left in March 2025. Didn’t know that was coming.
Cursor blinking…..
I know there are always two sides to a story but in this case there truly is
only one. Salt and sugar look the same.
As this is all still ongoing, and I could fill this with the events, cause and
effects, stuff and junk, what I think, what I feel, the legal system as it
relates to divorce, people, places, things, more stuff and junk…but as my
attention is better served elsewhere, hushed is best.
I will say…. the freed space is at the door with a clipboard checking its
watch, waiting for the UPS driver. The Upgrades Pending Service.

| Hailey and Finn, the paint by numbers-ish paintings I made of them. |
But like I said, this created an inventory of cause and effect.
And where that list meets this blog is that the house was just sold. I
am no longer there.
Which. These are some of the reasons I’ve been MIA (just another MIA link
is all, not related to today).
The things that it took to create the projects and write the posts and bring
them to you have not been available. In ways, these things are still not
but I intend to do the best I can.
And now the house itself that brought us all this blog is no longer
available.
I did take some “here’s where things ended up” photographs. A grand
final tour wrap up may or may not arrive at some point.
Cursor blinking, I swear this thing…
So.
I know. Right?
So.
Where am I?
A list of circumstances being what they were, are, will likely shape as, past,
present, and future, a chain of things and man, I have a thousand words for
each thought there…
I’m in California.
(Cursor blinking)
Correct.
I am not in Chicago. I am sans Menards.
Look, I know.
In the end here, I’m not trying to be intentionally vague, elusive, or
purposefully murky to frustrate you, given how freely I normally share here.
Bear with me through this chapter, please. A few more pages and a couple
books will close and be shelved elsewhere.
So again, while darn near everything has changed, what will not is what I
bring to you via this blog. It'll just be a different volume of the same
book series.
Meaning, Flipping the Flip remains the same; we’re changing locations and
structures, me and my giant TFA Intern, Benny boy.
As time rolls on, projects and some details relating will reveal themselves
more forthwith but in brief summary:
Where I was, to wrap that: 1800-ish square feet, two story home with basement,
backyard, and garage in Chicago, built in 1896;
flipped
in 2012, bought in 2013, sold in 2026
Where I am: 880-ish square foot single story house built in 1918 with
backyard, sans basement and garage but with a brand spanking new dedicated
workshop space in California
The latter there
I drew up.
So.
So yeah.
Life is a Chicago street in spring
after the winter thaw. There are
two seasons in Chicago. And as the seasons change, I need to tie on the appropriate gear, if
you catch my drift.
Blinking…
It takes a village. This is the flipping village. And know I’m
grateful for you.

DeleteOof, been there. Still kind of there, really. Mine brought me from Vermont to New York to California to Oregon with three cats in the car, what an adventure! I know it's hard to believe but you'll find your joy again. We all believe in you and know you can do anything, trust us <3
ReplyDeleteWho’s cutting onions in here? Thank you.
DeleteI’m sorry you’re still kinda there. I’m doing that two finger eyes to eyes gesture, I see you. And that is a serious travel log, goodness.
I trust you. Thank you for this. <3
